What characters can be used in domains?

When you’re considering what your domain name should be, it’s important that you know the restrictions and allowances involved. In terms of length, you can use anywhere from 3 to 63 characters. An important factor to note, however, is that a shorter website address is usually remembered more easily. There are several different characters that can be used:
  • All numbers from 0 to 9
  • All letters in the English alphabet A to Z
  • Hyphens
Hyphens cannot be used either at the start or end of the name, nor can you use double hyphens, although you can use several throughout the address. No other types of punctuation are accepted. A combination of letters and numbers can be used, and either can be used at the start and end. Get in touch with us on 1300 368 359 for additional information.
