Is private registration available for Australian domain names?

Although available for certain domain extensions, it’s not actually permitted when it comes to .AU domain names as it’s prohibited directly by the auDA (.au Domain Administration).

This is due to two important reasons:

  1. It can slow down law enforcement or consumer affairs investigations relating to either fraud or another form of illegal activity being carried out by the registrant.
  2. The establishment offering private registration may be seen as the domain’s legal owner, complicating legal matters.

There are limitations in place in regards to precisely what information must be provided, though, and you aren’t made to display details such as phone and fax number or physical address.

If you’re ready to register a .AU domain, be sure to contact the helpful Hosting Australia team on 1300 368 359.
