If I am not eligible for a com.au or .net.au, what other .au domain name can I register?
For those who don’t have the proper paperwork (ABN/CAN, etc.) to register either a .com.au or .net.au domain name, there are most definitely other options for you to take advantage of that also use the .AU ccTLD (country code Top-Level Domain).
If you’re a citizen or resident of Australia and aren’t interested in ever turning your website into anything commercially related, you’re able to register a .id.au domain. The specific address you register must be related to your personal information (initials, nickname, actual name, etc.).
Do you represent a sporting or other club, non-profit organisation, Australian incorporated association or political party? You may well be able to secure either a .asn.au or .org.au domain.
Of course, there’s always global domain extensions (.com, .net, .org, etc.) which don’t have the criteria you’re required to meet when registering .AU. These global domain names allow you to have Australian website hosting, too.
